Design philosophy
Every decision is acoustic.
The Q7 uses the same Corundum dome tweeter as every Q-Series model. The 5ยผโณ Glass Fiber Composite midwoofer is chosen specifically for the Q7's compact cabinet โ its mechanical parameters align with an 8L sealed enclosure to achieve near-Butterworth response with minimal compromise. In a room with a subwoofer, which is every room the Q7 belongs in, the Q7's acoustic character and the Q-Series front channels are indistinguishable from each other. The speaker is compact. The sound is not.

Tweeter Shared across Q-Series
1ยผโณ Corundum dome tweeter
Corundum โ aluminium oxide at 9/10 Mohs hardness. Dome resonance above the audible range. Flat to 22 kHz. FEA-optimised underhung motor. Copper cap pole piece. Rear acoustic chamber. The same tweeter across every Q-Series model โ the Q7's high-frequency character is identical to the Q5, Q6, and Q-Series front channels.
Midwoofer
5ยผโณ Glass Fiber Composite cone
Glass Fiber Composite โ fibreglass rigidity with controlled damping. Aluminium shorting ring on the motor. Cast aluminium chassis. The 5ยผโณ format is chosen for the Q7's compact 8L cabinet โ its mechanical parameters achieve near-Butterworth sealed alignment in this volume, producing flat response and maximum sensitivity from the available cabinet space. Free air resonance of 66 Hz. 9.1mm peak-to-peak linear excursion.
Signal integration
The crossover is where the speaker is truly designed.
Crossover at ~2,000 Hz. Both transducers within their natural operating range at the transition. Low-loss 24 dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley network, voiced for consistent off-axis performance across the range of surround listening angles. Stable 8ฮฉ load.

Enclosure
Acoustic suspension โ 8L sealed
Sealed 8L enclosure, tuned for near-Butterworth alignment with the 5ยผโณ GFC midwoofer. Flat response, maximum sensitivity from the available cabinet volume. Wall boundary reinforcement supplements bass output at the installed position. Clean rolloff integrates with processor bass management at 100โ120 Hz.
Mounting
Wall-mountable โ 140mm depth
Flat rear panel. Standard wall bracket compatible. 320mm wide, 250mm tall, 140mm deep. Optimal placement at or slightly above ear level, angled toward the listening position. Vertical or horizontal orientation.
Construction and finish
Resonance-controlled โ five finishes
High-density natural wood composite. Internally braced. Moisture-resistant. Flat-sanded between coats, inspected under raking light. The same finishing standard as every V&Y model.

8ฮฉ nominal. Compatible with any standard AV processor channel. Bass management at 100โ120 Hz recommended โ the Q7 is designed for use with a subwoofer. The acoustic transition from front channels to Q7 surround is inaudible. The Corundum dome makes it so.
System context

The Q7 is designed for flexible deployment โ side surrounds, rear surrounds, or mixed configurations alongside Q5 speakers. Both share the same Corundum dome tweeter. Mixed deployment is acoustically seamless.

Both share the same Corundum dome tweeter and the same acoustic identity. The choice is installation.
Form factor
Choose the Q5 when
The room can accommodate a larger surround speaker. The Q5's 6ยฝโณ midwoofer extends to 60 Hz in its 410mm tall cabinet โ full-range surround output with or without a subwoofer.
Mounting
Choose the Q7 when
Compact form matters โ smaller rooms, tighter wall positions, or installations where the surround speaker should have a minimal physical presence. Used with a subwoofer, which crosses the Q7 out at 100โ120 Hz, the acoustic result is the same.
