The Q2 begins with the same question as every V&Y loudspeaker: what does this driver configuration need from its cabinet, its crossover, and its alignment to perform at its absolute limit? In a 3-way design, that question becomes more consequential โ three drivers, two crossover boundaries, and the phase relationships between all three maintained across the full frequency range.
The Q2 is built to work wherever it is placed. On stands as a reference monitor. Mounted on a wall in a room where floor area is a consideration. The tall flat-baffle cabinet and down-firing port are designed for both contexts. The 3-way topology is what changes the acoustic result: the dedicated 5ยผโณ midrange driver covers the most critical band in music โ the vocal and instrumental midrange โ without the compression and distortion that a midwoofer handling bass simultaneously introduces at that range.

Transducer platform
Three drivers. Each with one job.
The Q2 uses three transducers from the Peerless HDS driver family โ a dedicated driver for each of three frequency ranges. A 1ยผโณ Corundum dome tweeter handles high frequencies above the upper crossover point. A dedicated 5ยผโณ Glass Fiber Composite midrange driver covers the critical vocal and instrumental band between the two crossover points. A 6ยฝโณ Glass Fiber Composite woofer handles the bass register below the lower crossover point. Each driver operates exclusively within its designed frequency range โ the result is midrange clarity and separation that a 2-way design cannot achieve with the same driver complement.
Tweeter โ Corundum dome Shared across Q-Series
1ยผโณ Corundum dome tweeter
Corundum โ aluminium oxide โ scores 9 on the Mohs hardness scale. As a tweeter dome, this extreme rigidity pushes the dome's resonance frequency well above the audible range, keeping frequency response flat to 22 kHz and beyond. The underhung voice coil allows crossover frequencies as low as 1,200 Hz without mechanical stress. An FEA-optimised motor assembly with copper cap pole piece reduces inductance and minimises distortion. A rear acoustic chamber serves as resonance tuner and thermal heatsink.
Midrange โ dedicated 5ยผโณ GFC cone Q2 and Q3 only
5ยผโณ Glass Fiber Composite dedicated midrange
A dedicated 5ยผโณ midrange driver โ operating exclusively in the band between the two crossover points, free of the bass loading and thermal stress that a midwoofer handling both bass and midrange simultaneously carries. The Glass Fiber Composite cone combines fibreglass rigidity with controlled damping, extending clean midrange response across the vocal and instrumental band without mechanical coloration. The ferrite motor incorporates an aluminium shorting ring reducing voice coil inductance. A cast aluminium chassis provides structural rigidity and thermal management.
The 5ยผโณ format is chosen specifically for the midrange role โ smaller than the woofer below it, with a free air resonance of 66 Hz that places its mechanical limit well below the lower crossover point. This driver operates within a sealed midrange chamber in the Q2 cabinet, isolated from both the woofer enclosure and the port volume โ the midrange is acoustically separated from the bass loading entirely.

6ยฝโณ Glass Fiber Composite woofer
The same 6ยฝโณ GFC driver as the Q1 โ operating exclusively below the lower crossover point as a dedicated bass driver. In the Q2, this driver handles only bass frequencies โ it does not reproduce midrange content. The result is controlled, low-compression bass reproduction without the thermal and excursion stress that a 2-way midwoofer accumulates by handling both bass and midrange simultaneously. Free air resonance of 46 Hz and 10.68mm peak-to-peak linear excursion provide genuine bass authority in the Q2's reflex alignment.
In a 2-way loudspeaker, the midwoofer handles both bass and the critical midrange band simultaneously โ accumulating thermal stress, excursion load, and dynamic compression across both operating ranges at once. In the Q2, a dedicated midrange driver covers the vocal and instrumental band free of that loading. The woofer handles bass exclusively. Each driver does one thing. The result is audible separation, lower distortion in the midrange, and bass that does not compromise midrange clarity.
Signal integration
The crossover is where the speaker is truly designed.
The Q2 crossover is a 3-way network โ three drivers, two crossover boundaries, and the phase relationships between all three maintained across the full frequency range. The woofer crosses to the dedicated midrange driver at ~400 Hz. The midrange crosses to the Corundum dome tweeter at ~2,500 Hz. Between those points, the 5ยผโณ midrange driver operates exclusively in its designed range โ free of both the bass loading below it and the upper frequency demands above it.

Cabinet design
Built for the stand and the wall equally.
The Q2 cabinet is V&Y's own design โ a tall flat-baffle monitor enclosure built around the acoustic requirements of a 3-way system with separate midrange and bass volumes. The shallow 140mm depth and flat rear panel allow flush wall mounting on standard brackets. The down-firing port functions in both stand-mounted and wall-mounted positions.
Acoustic architecture
Sealed midrange chamber
The 5ยผโณ dedicated midrange driver operates in a sealed chamber fully isolated from the woofer enclosure and the port volume. Bass-frequency pressure variations from the woofer do not reach the rear of the midrange cone. The midrange hears only the crossover network and the room โ the primary acoustic benefit of a true 3-way architecture.
Bass loading
Down-firing reflex alignment, 45 Hz
Down-firing bass reflex port, tuned to 45 Hz. The port fires downward from the cabinet base in all installation positions. Wall-mounted, floor and wall boundary reinforcement supplement the alignment. The 6ยฝโณ dedicated woofer's free air resonance of 46 Hz and 10.68mm excursion provide bass extension to 42 Hz (ยฑ3 dB) โ deeper than the Q1 by virtue of the woofer operating without the midrange thermal and excursion load it carries in a 2-way design.
Wall mounting
Bracket-ready, 140mm depth profile
The Q2's 140mm cabinet depth allows placement on standard shallow-profile wall brackets. The flat rear panel mounts directly against a bracket. At 675mm tall, the Q2 wall-mounted presents as a compact vertical monitor rather than a bookshelf speaker โ a placement that suits rooms where a tall stand-mount would occupy floor area. Optimal placement at ear level, angled toward the listening position.

Resonance-controlled enclosure
High-density natural wood composite construction, internally braced at positions calculated to suppress panel resonance modes. Standing wave minimised internal geometry. Moisture-resistant and dimensionally stable โ the acoustic geometry and driver alignment maintained over decades of use in any installation context.

Multi-stage hand-applied finish
Each cabinet passes through a controlled multi-stage coating process โ flat-sanded between coats, inspected under raking light, cleared only when it meets our written surface specification. The same finishing standard as every V&Y model. Available in all five V&Y finishes.

Placement note.
The Q2 is designed for stand mounting and wall mounting. On stands, place at ear level for the primary listening position. Wall-mounted at 675mm tall, the Q2 presents as a vertical monitor panel โ suitable for rooms where a floor-standing stand-mount is not practical. The down-firing port functions in both placements. Processor bass management should cross the Q2 at 80 Hz or below when used with a subwoofer in a cinema configuration.

The Q2 is designed as a primary stereo pair for two-channel listening and as the front left/right anchor of a Q-Series cinema system, in any room where the 3-way architecture's midrange separation is audibly meaningful. On stands, the Q2 delivers the midrange clarity and bass separation of a true 3-way monitor in a format that does not require a floorstanding cabinet. Wall-mounted, it provides the same performance in rooms where stand placement is not practical โ as a vertical monitor panel at ear level.
For full Q-Series system deployment: Q1 or Q2 front left/right, Q4 centre, Q5 or Q7 surrounds, Q6 Atmos, C-Series or D-Series subwoofer. The Q2 shares the same Corundum dome tweeter as every Q-Series model for tonal consistency throughout the system.
