Not every listening room is a dedicated cinema. Some rooms are also living spaces, dining rooms, bedrooms โ environments where the visual presence of a surround speaker matters as much as its acoustic performance. The X5's shield form makes a statement. The X7 makes none.

Installed on a wall, the X7's shallow depth and rectangular form recede into the architecture. The X7 uses the same two transducers from the SATORI reference driver family as the X5 โ the waveguide-loaded TW29TXNWG-4 tweeter and the MW16TX-4 TeXtremeยฎ midwoofer. The driver complement is unchanged. The crossover frequency is unchanged. The sealed alignment is unchanged. What changes is the cabinet geometry โ from the X5's distinctive shield form to the X7's flat-profile rectangular enclosure. Same acoustic performance. Different installation character.
Tweeter Shared across X-Series

The identical tweeter used across every X-Series model. In the X7's flat-baffle cabinet, the waveguide's controlled directivity maintains consistent off-axis frequency response across the range of listening angles that a wall-mounted surround speaker serves โ ensuring that every seat in the room hears the same X-Series tonal character from the surround field.
Midwoofer Shared with X1, X5

The same MW16TX-4 as the X5. A woven spread-tow carbon cone combining high rigidity and low moving mass, in a sealed enclosure tuned for wall-mounted placement. The boundary reinforcement from the wall surface supplements the sealed alignment's bass output โ the X7's flat profile and flush wall placement work with the acoustic environment rather than against it.

The choice to use the same driver complement in both the X5 and X7 is deliberate. A buyer who chooses the X7 for its discreet profile should not have to accept a different acoustic performance. The X7 holds the same standard as the X5 โ the decision between them is architectural, not acoustic.
Signal integration
The crossover is where the speaker is truly designed.
The X7 crossover is identical in topology and crossover frequency to the X5 โ developed around the waveguide-loaded TW29TXNWG-4 tweeter, with LCR impedance linearisation, resonance suppression networks, and phase-aligned integration at ~2,200 Hz. The flat-baffle cabinet geometry requires the same crossover discipline as the shield-form X5 โ the drivers are the same, the acoustic integration requirements are the same, and the listening environment demands the same off-axis consistency.
What the flat baffle changes is diffraction behaviour at the cabinet edges. A rectangular cabinet produces more predictable, lower-amplitude edge diffraction than a curved one โ the flat baffle's geometry is acoustically simpler, which allows the crossover to focus entirely on driver integration rather than diffraction compensation.

Cabinet design
Flat. Intentional. Present only in sound.
The X7 cabinet is V&Y's own design โ a flat-profile rectangular enclosure engineered for flush wall mounting. Where the X5's shield form is architecturally expressive, the X7 is architecturally neutral. Its shallow depth, clean rectangular profile, and flat rear panel are designed for rooms where the speaker should integrate with the wall surface rather than project from it.

A clean rectangular cabinet with minimal depth โ the X7's profile against the wall is determined by its cabinet depth, not its height or width. Installed on a standard wall-mount bracket, the X7 protrudes minimally from the wall surface. The driver face โ TeXtremeยฎ midwoofer and waveguide tweeter on a flat baffle โ is what the room sees. The cabinet recedes.
Mounting
Wall-mountable, flexible orientation
The X7 is designed for wall mounting in any surround position โ side surrounds, rear surrounds, or height-adjacent placement depending on room geometry. The flat rectangular cabinet can be oriented vertically or horizontally to suit installation requirements. Keyhole mounts and dedicated wall-bracket options are available. Optimal placement follows the same guidance as the X5: at or slightly above ear level for side surrounds, behind and above the listening position for rear surrounds.
Enclosure
Sealed โ boundary-reinforced
Acoustic suspension sealed enclosure. In flush or near-flush wall mounting, boundary reinforcement from the wall surface supplements the sealed alignment's bass output โ extending perceived low-frequency response in the installation environment. The clean sealed rolloff integrates naturally with processor bass management at 80โ100 Hz. No port, no port placement sensitivity, no turbulence noise from a port firing toward a wall surface.
Surface
Multi-stage hand-applied finish
Same finishing standard as every X-Series model. On a flat cabinet the finish quality is more exposed โ there are no curves to soften imperfections in the surface. The X7 meets the same written surface specification as the X1, X2, and X3.

The X7 performs identically to the X5 in acoustic terms โ same drivers, same crossover, same sealed alignment. The choice between X5 and X7 is purely architectural: the X5 for rooms where the surround speaker is part of the visual design, the X7 for rooms where it should not be. Processor bass management should cross the X7 at 80โ100 Hz when used with a subwoofer.
