R1
Floorstanding Loudspeaker
R2 Floorstanding Speaker
A 2ยฝ-way floorstanding loudspeaker built around a beryllium dome tweeter and two Egyptian Papyrus cone midwoofers โ the R-Series acoustic character at full room scale. V&Y’s own cabinet, a purpose-built crossover, and the dynamic authority that only a full-height enclosure with a dual-driver bass configuration can provide.

Q3
3-Way Floorstanding Loudspeaker
Every decision is acoustic.
The question is the same as every V&Y loudspeaker: what does this driver configuration need from its cabinet, its crossover, and its port geometry to perform at its absolute limit? Every dimension follows from that question. Every component value. Every surface decision. The result is a floorstanding loudspeaker with the tonal warmth and openness of the R-Series and the dynamic range that a full-height cabinet with dual midwoofers uniquely provides.
Beryllium above. Dual Papyrus below. The R-Series voice, amplified.
29mm beryllium dome โ waveguide-loaded
The same waveguide-loaded beryllium tweeter as the R1 โ shared across the entire R-Series to ensure tonal consistency from the bookshelf to the floorstander, and throughout any R-Series multi-channel system. Beryllium chosen for its stiffness-to-density ratio, near-zero internal damping, and flat response to 40 kHz. The 170mm solid aluminum waveguide controls directivity above the crossover point, ensuring consistent power response throughout the listening room. Dual copper caps hold voice coil inductance to 0.02 mH across the operating band.
2ร 6ยฝโณ Egyptian Papyrus cone midwoofer
Two 6ยฝโณ Egyptian Papyrus cone midwoofers in a 2ยฝ-way configuration. The Papyrus cone โ made from cellulose pulped from the Cyperus papyrus plant โ provides high internal damping, natural self-damping, and the warm organic midrange texture that defines the R-Series character. In the 2ยฝ-way configuration, the upper driver covers the full midrange and bass range, crossing to the beryllium tweeter at ~2,500 Hz. The lower driver is crossed out below the midrange, contributing only to bass output โ increasing cone area, extending bass authority, and reducing excursion demand on each driver individually at all output levels.
The combined cone area of two 6ยฝโณ Papyrus drivers moves substantially more air than a single driver equivalent. The bass register carries the same organic warmth as the midrange โ the Papyrus material character is consistent from deep bass through to the beryllium crossover point. A neodymium motor optimised for low distortion across the excursion range. Vented cast aluminum chassis. Free air resonance of 29 Hz for genuine bass authority within V&Y's reflex alignment.
The crossover is where the speaker is truly designed.
The network is built around the specific properties of the waveguide-loaded beryllium tweeter โ its controlled directivity, impedance curve, and sensitivity all accounted for explicitly in the component values. LCR impedance linearisation presents a stable, amplifier-friendly load across the full frequency range. Resonance suppression networks at each driver's mechanical limit keep those modes out of the listening position. Phase-aligned integration across both crossover regions. The assembly uses premium polypropylene film capacitors and air-core inductors, matched as a stereo pair to better than 1% tolerance. A slanted divider within the crossover chamber suppresses standing wave formation within the cavity itself.
~2,500 Hz
Consistent with R1. Matched beryllium tweeter character across the R-Series.
~350 Hz
Lower Papyrus midwoofer crosses out here, assuming dedicated bass duty below this point.
2ยฝ-way LCR
Sealed crossover chamber. Slanted divider. Impedance linearised. Phase-aligned across both regions.
Precision has a geometry.
Diffraction-controlled baffle geometry
The faceted baffle profile suppresses high-frequency edge diffraction across the full height of the cabinet. Driver placement is calculated against the baffle geometry to displace diffraction artefacts outside the critical listening band. The waveguide-loaded beryllium tweeter controls directivity above the crossover point โ the cabinet geometry focuses on what the waveguide does not address.
Down-firing reflex alignment, 35.5 Hz
Down-firing bass reflex port, tuned to 35.5 Hz. The combined cone area of two 6ยฝโณ Papyrus midwoofers extends low-frequency output with the same organic warmth as the midrange โ the bass register is tonally continuous with the frequencies above it. The down-firing orientation uses floor boundary reinforcement to extend bass loading and keeps turbulence noise away from the listening axis. Dual port geometry distributes port resonance evenly across the alignment frequency.
Sealed crossover chamber
The crossover network is housed in a sealed chamber at the cabinet base, separated from the main acoustic volume by a slanted divider that suppresses standing wave formation within the crossover cavity. Component values remain stable under the mechanical load of dual midwoofers at high output levels. The crossover hears the room โ not the speaker.
Wedge rear walls, strategic bracing
Wedge-shaped inner rear walls reduce internal reflections from the Papyrus midwoofer rear faces. Strategic bracing positions suppress panel resonance modes across a full-height cabinet's operating range. High-density natural wood composite construction, moisture-resistant and dimensionally stable over decades of use.
Multi-stage hand-applied finish
Same finishing standard as every V&Y model. Flat-sanded between coats, inspected under raking light, cleared only when it meets our written surface specification. At full floorstanding scale, the finishing process is more demanding. The standard does not change. Available in all five V&Y finishes.

Stereo. Cinema. The R-Series voice throughout.
In stereo, the R2 delivers the R-Series tonal character across a soundstage that fills a large room without strain. In a cinema system, it anchors the front left/right with sufficient output and bass authority to be used without a subwoofer in most rooms โ or to cross seamlessly to a C-Series or D-Series subwoofer where additional extension is required.
The R2 shares the same beryllium tweeter as every R-Series model โ ensuring tonal consistency from the front pair through every surround position in a complete R-Series system.
Built for decades. Backed without conditions.
